Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed he will personally attend Pakatan Harapan's official candidate announcement for the 16th Johor State Election (PRN Johor Ke-16), set for tonight at Padang Bukit Gambir Extreme Park, Bukit Gambir.
The confirmation came via Anwar's official social media channels, where he posted that he would travel to Bukit Gambir to join PH leadership in announcing the candidates who will carry the coalition's banner on July 11 polling day. He used the Malay word amanah — trust — to frame the candidacy as a civic responsibility that candidates take on behalf of the rakyat.
The Majlis Pengumuman Calon is scheduled for 8.00pm at the Padang Bukit Gambir Extreme Park. The venue is located in the Pagoh area, which carries particular political significance given its associations with key figures in the rival Perikatan Nasional bloc.
The choice of venue places the event squarely in contested political territory. Holding the PH candidate launch in Pagoh sends a clear message about the coalition's competitive intent across the full breadth of Johor's 56 state assembly seats.
Johor's state assembly will be contested in what analysts expect to be a highly competitive three-way race between BN, PN and PH. The coalition composition and individual candidate quality will be under intense scrutiny from party machinery, voters and the national press as the three-week campaign sprint begins.
In his Instagram post, Anwar also issued a direct call to action: "Ayuh bersama-sama hadir dan memulakan langkah menuju kemenangan" — come together, attend and take the first step toward victory. The language reflects confidence and collective purpose rather than defensive positioning.
Tonight's event is the formal starting gun. Malaysia Dispatch will report on the confirmed candidate list as it is announced after 8pm.
