The longstanding housing crisis affecting Bukit Kiara Longhouse residents has been addressed through a comprehensive government initiative that provides permanent accommodation to affected families at no cost. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the development project in Kuala Lumpur on June 15, marking a major breakthrough for residents who have campaigned for resolution over more than four decades.

Under the scheme, each qualifying household will receive two new housing units as part of the permanent resettlement programme. Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, the Sungai Buloh Member of Parliament, characterised the development as evidence of the administration's dedication to resolving public grievances swiftly rather than allowing them to persist across generations.

The Prime Minister's decision included an additional RM1 million allocation to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) designated for three-year maintenance operations in the vicinity. Ramanan acknowledged that while the project's financial scale may appear limited, its transformative effect on residents who have endured prolonged displacement cannot be overstated.

The resolution represents a culmination of sustained advocacy by community representatives since 2018, when formal legal proceedings commenced. Critically, the government has managed to address the longhouse residents' needs without sacrificing environmental conservation efforts for Taman Rimba Kiara, sidestepping controversial earlier development proposals that had threatened the forest reserve.
