A major crackdown on illegal electronic waste activities yielded substantial results when enforcement teams raided an unlicensed processing and storage operation in Bukit Mertajam yesterday. The operation led to the confiscation of e-waste materials estimated to be worth RM3 million.
Five individuals were apprehended during the enforcement action, which targeted the facility suspected of handling prohibited electronic waste recycling and storage activities. The discovery highlights ongoing concerns about unregulated e-waste handling in the region.
The raid represents a significant effort by authorities to combat illegal environmental practices that pose risks to public health and the surrounding ecosystem. E-waste processing without proper licensing and environmental safeguards can result in hazardous material contamination.
The seized materials and arrested individuals have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings. Enforcement agencies continue to monitor operations suspected of breaching environmental regulations across the state.
