Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has called on MADANI Communities nationwide to shoulder the responsibility of ensuring Malaysians receive accurate, verified and trustworthy information regarding government policies, initiatives and accomplishments. Speaking at the Jiwa MADANI programme in Kota Bharu on June 16, Fahmi stressed that this task should not rest solely with government agencies like the Information Department (JAPEN) and the Community Communications Department (J-KOM).
Fahmi pointed to several significant government achievements deserving wider public awareness. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has maintained adequate rice supplies during festive seasons, while the Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation Scheme System (eCOSS) run by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living has made subsidised packet cooking oil readily available to consumers after previous shortages.
"These accomplishments under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration are exactly what MADANI Communities should be communicating to the public," Fahmi stated. During the event, he distributed appointment letters to Kelantan MADANI Community leaders for the 2026-2027 term.
To support their work, the Communications Ministry plans to conduct frequent briefing sessions keeping community leaders updated on current issues and government initiatives requiring grassroots dissemination. JAPEN will additionally be responsible for assessing MADANI Community effectiveness in spreading information at the local level.
Fahmi warned that underperforming groups would face scrutiny and potential replacement. "We will instruct JAPEN to intervene promptly if any MADANI Community becomes inactive," he said. "Should this occur, we will implement necessary adjustments, which may include replacing inactive members."
